ENVIROMENTAL EFFECTS OF VEGETABLE WASTE OILS

• Waste oils have ecotoxic features.
• It pollutes the enviroment and causes harm to living things in its habitat.
• It causes contamination when it is poured into soil
• It increases operating and maintenance costs
• Effects the underwater creatures
• Causes congestion in sewage systems and in wastewater treatment facilities.

It was found in the researches that %25 of the waste water pollution was composed with used vegetable and animal oils. Vegetable and animal waste oils in wastewater cause great damage to other living things in the environment, especially fish, as a result of water pollution and reduced oxygen in the water when it reaches the seas, lakes and streams. In addition, waste vegetable oils cover the water surface like a film layer due to their specific gravity and adversely affect the existence of underwater life by preventing oxygen transfer.
